Why Bother?
Hmmm, good
question!
And here
is our answer:
- To
gather and share information with other professionals.
The industry is mostly fragmented and a lot of the best information
by seasoned (if a little cranky...) professionals is often not accessible
both by other professionals and students or hobbyists.
- To
form a bridge between search engine and search engine optimization industries.
Both parties what the same basic thing, but are often pitted against
each other. An information exchange and the establishment of trust can
only be good for the search industry as a whole.
- To
raise the quality of search engine results pages (SERPs),
by creating listings that are of a higher quality with a measure of
consistency by making a standard for listings created by SEOs from the
perspective of a search engine or directory operator.
- To
provide more content of a higher quality and reduce the time and
editing needed by search engine and directory editors and operators.
- To
allow SEOs to submit to fewer places and have those submissions
appear on more and more systems.
- There are other organizations. You may find that SeoPros.org, SEMPO.org, or seoconsultants.com offer what you want. What we found is that none of these really addressed our needs, although SeoPros.org does come the closest. Many of the others seem to exist more to serve the founders and their friends, or serve as a vehicle to promote someone's personal agenda. Visit the other organizations, ask questions, and I'm sure you will find one that you will want to join and take part in and further both your career and the industry.
